Case performed by:
Dr. William Romano, MD
Beaumont Hospital
Royal Oak, MI

64 year-old female patient with biopsy proven pancreatic cancer.  Large lesion in the pancreatic head.  Patient is jaundiced.  CT scan of abdomen confirms.

Unsuccessful ERCP procedure (endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography).

Interventional Radiology consulted for drainage procedure and therapy.  PTC (percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram) performed with drainage catheter placement.  CBD (Common Bile Duct) lesion causing obstruction was identified.

Patient returned a few days later for stent placement as definitive palliative treatment.  8mmx40mm Idev Supera self-expanding stent was chosen for the CBD lesion.  Predilatation to 7mm initially and then post stent placement dilatation to 8mm.

Drainage catheter exchanged for an external drainage type.  Drainage bag removed and the tube capped.
